As scientists are discovering the specific properties of some foods that offer a wide variety of health benefits, they are also finding that these same properties can also provide some beauty benefits as well. Most of us have learned to avoid products laden with a wide variety of chemicals, but there are some ingredients that you can find in skincare products that will make a huge difference for your skin. These straight-from-nature ingredients can help you achieve dewy, glowing skin and a younger looking face.
Argan Oil:
This oil, pressed from the fruit of a Moroccan tree, is rich in vitamin E and can help different skin ailments or improve the texture and tone of your skin overall. Eczema, psoriasis, and dry skin can all be treated with products containing this nutrient-rich oil, but it also may be highly effective in combating wrinkles as well.
Vitamin C:
More commonly known as citric acid, this incredibly mild acid comes from citrus fruits like grapefruit, lime, lemon, and orange. While gentle enough for even the most sensitive of skin, the mildly acidic properties of citrus fruit extracts can fade brown spots and give you younger looking skin.
Blueberry:
Blueberries are incredibly tasty, but they can also help your skin a ton. They are rich in antioxidants, which helps your skin stay firm and beautiful. There are several different kinds of blueberries, and all of them are great, but some of them are more beneficial than others. As Kyani points out, the Wild Alaskan Blueberry has an antioxidant potency five times what a normal blueberry does. You can eat them as a snack, a smoothie, or add them to a face mask.
Coffeeberry:
The fleshy, outer casing of the coffee bean is generally referred to as the coffee cherry or coffeeberry. The antioxidant power of the coffeeberry is reputed to be even greater than that of blueberries, pomegranates, and even green tea. Its therapeutic properties help to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and can even reduce pigmentation. Look for it in all-natural under-eye creams that can help reduce dark circles as well.
Tea:
Green tea, white tea, and chamomile all have soothing, calming properties, not to mention being antioxidant rich. Different kinds of tea can help to reduce, and in some cases even reverse, much of the damage caused by UV rays. Chamomile tea, in particular, has long been used as a home remedy to calm the effects of sunburn.
While all of these foods contain natural properties that can help you achieve dewy, youthful looking skin, many products contain such a trace amount of the ingredient that it actually provides little benefit. Be sure and stick with reputable products and keep reading those labels!
