Getting the perfect eyebrows takes time, effort, and precision. Women spend thousands of dollars each year on eyebrow trimmers, stencil kits, and pencils and gels. Some women even go to salons to have their brows threaded, waxed, or professionally plucked. However, there is a recent surge in a trend called microblading.
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a way to amp up thin, sparse eyebrows using semi-permanent tattooing techniques to create a hair-like appearance. It gives you a full brow and eliminates the need to use brow gels, stencils, and eyebrow pencil daily. One of the benefits of microblading is that your brows will have a consistent look from day to day. It’s a time-saver because you no longer have to spend the time to re-create your brow line every time you change your makeup.
Is Microblading for Me?
Certain skin conditions are not ideal for microblading. Extremely oily skin may reject the tattoo pigment or look more powder-filled. If you scar or retain keloids easily, it can cause your results to change over time. If you have highly-sensitive or infection-prone skin, ask a doctor or eyebrow technician what precautions you should take before having a microblading procedure.
Time Considerations
If you decide to get microblading done, don’t expect it to be a quick procedure. You’re getting a semi-permanent tattoo, so allow yourself a decent amount of time. You will need up to two hours at the salon for the initial application, and you may need to go back for a second session to perfect the brow line. This procedure will fade a tiny bit initially, but it will last for one to three years, depending on your skin, age, and how you care for them. If you like the way it looks, you will need to go to get maintenance done to keep your brows looking fresh.
Have Realistic Expectations
Your new brows will match the contours of your face and natural brow line, which means that your brows shouldn’t look dramatically different in shape. Each side of our face is different so discuss the type of results you want before the procedure starts. Your brows will be very dark and dramatic at first but will tone down to a natural appearance in no time. Don’t panic; your technician can correct minor mistakes and make changes to the original results at a follow-up appointment. It’s a tattoo, so you might feel some minor irritation. Ask for a topical numbing agent to help with the discomfort.
Microblading is a great way to fill in thin eyebrows, but it isn’t your only option. Just like any other cosmetic procedures, make sure you do your research ahead of time and find a salon that you trust.
